March – European Vascular Month

2026

MARCH- EUROPEAN VASCULAR MONTH

(“EUVASCMONTH”)

Background

In 2014 VAS launched  Campaigns, starting with “No more Vascular Amputations!”, followed by “No More Venous Ulcers!”.

To support them,  “PAD&Vascular European Days” were also launched, the 3rd Wednesday to Friday of March, to extend awareness to the population  .

22 Societies have been collaborating on the project.

8 Editions have been organized, everyone dedicated to a  selected topic, with different results in different European  countries. Open days in the hospitals, free vascular screening, conferences, distribution of materials in the squares, announcements in the Metro and during football games , dedicated T-shirts etc.

A limit was found in organizing all the activities  during the same days, excluding other activities that would be fixed just on different dates.

The modest economic available support was also considered  a limitation.

Even considering the limits, a very positive evaluation has been given of the action both by population and patients and by health local organizers,  suggesting the action to be improved and enlarged in the future, making plans more ambitious but also more adherent to the real-life needs.

Why an European Vascular Month

  • To continue on the way of the “PAD&Vascular European Days”, extending their relevance and dissemination and overcoming some highlighted limits.
  • Extend to each expertise the chance to organise specific events and make it possible to enclose in the program events distributed during the whole month long.
  • Enforce coordination and network
  • Obtain a recognition of the Month

Every Expertise in one Month

The Month makes possible to every Institution/Department/Center/

Ambulatory/Organization to organize its own event  focused on its major vascular expertise, including risk factors, under the lines and coordination of the Month.

It means that not just Centres working on all vascular diseases but also Centers working on a specific area will be able to participate, organizing a dedicated event  , on any day of the Month, respecting the few, simple rules reported below.

No fix days, everyone is free to organize events under the umbrella of the Month.

As previously mentioned, every day is suitable for events; the overlapping is also welcome, covering different areas (geographical or of expertise). Every event must be communicated centrally and it will be reported and advertised in a common calendar (available  and downloadable from  the VAS web site).

Coordinated Calendar + Common Logo + Common Introduction

Simple common rules :

  1. VAS’s principles of correctness and transparency must be guaranteed by all the participants, under each participant’s responsibility
  2. Every event must report the common logo (see downloadable) with the couple of common lines introducing the European Vascular Month
  3. Every event must be centralized (just giving information of date , location ,local organizer and topic to VAS, in a dedicated email: events@vascularmedicinevas.net )
  4. Common materials have to be used , and new materials should be shared, all also kept for next years. Existing materials can be adapted, adding the requested part on point -b.
  5. Every Center/Organization can add its logo to the materials, respecting point-b. Translations of the common materials are welcome and have to be centralized, to be also available on the VAS website.
  6. Documentation (Photo, videos, newspaper and media information must be centralized as part of each final/local  report) . A short template for reports will be available.
