Prevention of Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
The event on March 21st is designed to raise public awareness about Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) and its strong connection with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular risk. The initiative includes two complementary components: 1) A prevention and screening area, dedicated to the early detection of PAD and other vascular conditions in asymptomatic or high-risk individuals, allowing timely referral and treatment.
2) A public educational session, aimed at explaining PAD in simple and accessible terms, emphasizing the importance of risk-factor control (smoking cessation, physical activity, diet, diabetes and blood pressure management), and empowering citizens to take an active role in protecting their vascular health.
By combining public education with early diagnosis, the event seeks to save lives, prevent avoidable disability, and reduce the long-term healthcare burden for the community through cost-effective prevention strategies.
